1. West Virginia still a year away

While West Virginia is 3-1 and just won by three touchdowns, the Mountaineers still look like they’re a year away from competing in the Big 12.

There are a few teams in the Big 12 this season who could push for that title, but I don’t think West Virginia is in that group just lower than the contenders. The Mountaineers are in the second tier of the Big 12 this season, behind the likes of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas and Iowa State.

West Virginia is along the same lines as teams like Baylor, TCU and Kansas State and that group could be near the top next season as each is either under a new coaching staff or a new quarterback of the future — or both.

This team has talent with Jarrett Doege and Leddie Brown leading the offense and the defense being one of the best in the conference, but a 6-4 finish is likely. Give this team a year and the Mountaineers will be near the top.
