ACC Football Power Rankings, Week 8: Clemson leaves no doubt as No. 1
By Dante Pryor
1. Clemson Tigers (4-0, 3-0)
The Clemson Tigers are currently conducting a Master Class on how to dominate with the weight of expectations every time you take the field. Trevor Lawrence came into this season the prohibitive favorite to win the Heisman Trophy and be the number one pick in the draft. With three of the five Power Five conferences playing, Clemson came into this season arguably the best team in the country.
Trevor Lawrence would have to find new targets to throw the ball. Tee Higgins declared for the NFL draft and Justyn Ross has a career threatening injury. For Clemson, message received.
New targets, no problem. Lawrence is having his best season at Clemson so far. As ‘Nuke’ Laloosh said in Bull Durham, the Tigers are establishing their presence with authority. Clemson is blowing teams away in the first half and taking their foot off the gas. The defense that lost so many pieces in the draft are giving up 12 points per game. There has been no sleep walking this season.
Clemson took their loss to LSU very personally and they are taking it out on the ACC. The 73-7 drubbing of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets is proof that no one is safe. If Clemson continues to play like this, there isn’t a team in the country that can defeat them.
