Boise State Football: Game-by-game predictions for 2020
Game 3: vs. BYU
Here’s where the fun happens. A massive Friday night game on the blue turf with all of the nation’s eyes on this game.
To say BYU has been impressive has been an understatement. Quarterback Zach Wilson has been unbelievable this season, even drawing some comparisons to Joe Burrow. BYU has been so good that there’s even talk of the Cougars finding their way into the College Football Playoff.
Either way, this is a make or break game for both teams. Neither team will reach the heights they want to achieve if they don’t take care of business in this game.
BYU’s defense has been lights out as well. They’re only giving up 14 points per game while seventh against the run and 23rd against the pass.
Wilson is the best player on the field in every game he’s played so far and this game won’t be any exception. BYU may not win directly because of him, but he’ll be a major part why.
Prediction: BYU 38, Boise State 34 (2-1)
Game 4: vs. Colorado State
The Rams have a ton of questions. Wide receiver Warren Jackson opted out of the season. He was the best player on the team and figures to have been this year again. They also have a new coaching staff, lead by former Boston College head coach Steve Addazio.
This will only be Colorado State’s third game of the season as their opener against New Mexico has already been canceled. That’s not a lot of time for a team with a new staff to get prepared, especially after not having a spring practice to get things together.
There’s not much reason to think the Rams will improve a lot on the near 200 yards per game they gave up on the ground last year. Couple that stay with their seventh-ranked pass defense and this is a recipe for a whole lot of Holani.
Prediction: Colorado State 17, Boise State 31 (3-1)
