Game 5: at Hawaii

A rematch of last year’s Mountain West Championship Game, this one is sure to have plenty of intrigue despite Hawaii not being where they were a season ago.

The island can produce weird results, but Hawaii has a lot of problems. Much like Colorado State, the Rainbow Warriors being in a new head coach in Todd Graham.

Hawaii lost its starting quarterback, three of its top four receivers and returns a defense that was far from good last season. The Rainbow Warriors have a lot of depth to replace as well.

Hawaii could surprise in a few games, but this won’t be one of them. If this was last year’s Hawaii team, there would be reason for worry. Not so much with this year’s version.

Prediction: Boise State 44, Hawaii 21 (4-1)

Game 6: vs. San Jose State

Trap game alert.

San Jose State is a program seemingly on the rise. Under Brent Brennan, they’ve improved every year. Even though they lose Josh Love, Nick Starkel transfers in from Texas A&M and will be at least a capable replacement this year.

Most of the Spartans’ questions come on defense where they haven’t been good in quite some time. Still, like the rest of the team, they have shown improvement, even if it is minimal.

San Jose State is a team Boise State should be able to handle. But if Boise goes into the game with that attitude, things might get a little too close for comfort. As long as the Broncos go into the game with the chip on their shoulder they’ve had for the last 15 years, the Broncos should emerge with a win.

Prediction: San Jose State 31, Boise State 44 (5-1)
