College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 9
By Zach Bigalke
Kansas State kept themselves among the Big 12 leaders this week with a 55-14 pasting of rival Kansas at home. The Wildcats bottled up the Jayhawks defensively, holding the visitors to just 320 total yards of offense in the blowout. It was a strong performance that should push Chris Klieman’s team up into the high teens of the AP Top 25 when it releases on Sunday to kick off Week 9.
Sophomore return man Phillip Brooks returned two punts for touchdowns, as special teams served as a catalyst for the victory. Justin Gardner chipped in for the defense, returning a Jalon Daniels interception for a touchdown. Will Howard had a solid enough performance at quarterback, completing 17 of his 24 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns, and the ground game produced 129 yards and a pair of touchdowns by committee.
The Wildcats head to Morgantown for a Halloween duel against West Virginia. Back-to-back tests against Oklahoma State and Iowa State at the beginning of November will help untangle the top of the Big 12 standings and determine which teams will remain in the rankings once the College Football Playoff selection committee starts releasing its rankings.
