College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 9
By Zach Bigalke
In a Third Saturday in October duel taking place on the fourth Saturday of the month this season, Alabama did enough to hold on to its No. 2 position in the AP Top 25. The Crimson Tide built a two-touchdown lead in the first quarter that extended to 28-10 by halftime, setting up a comfortable 48-17 victory in Knoxville. That will be enough to fend off hard-charging Ohio State after the Big Ten opened its fall season this weekend.
Mac Jones had 297 yards through the air by halftime and finished with 387 yards on 25-of-31 passing. Though he had no passing touchdowns, Jones did punch in a rushing score. Najee Harris notched three touchdowns and racked up 96 yards on the ground, as the Tide finished with 587 total yards of offense in the rout. Alabama’s defense held Tennessee to only 302 total yards as 25,000-plus fans in attendance at Neyland Stadium were left disappointed in the home side.
Nick Saban’s team hosts Mississippi State in Week 9 as the only undefeated team left in the SEC, and will remain comfortably in top-four position in both the AP Top 25 and the College Football Playoff rankings as long as they keep winning.
