player. 21. 837. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 3-2. lost 24-21 at No. 6 Oklahoma State. Iowa State Cyclones

Iowa State fought to the bitter end in their road showdown against No. 6 Oklahoma State, ultimately falling 24-21 in Stillwater for their first loss in Big 12 play. There were some bright spots for the Cyclones in defeat, but it was ultimately a defeat that will result in Matt Campbell’s team falling between four and six spots to cling to a position in the 20s of the AP Top 25 this week.

Breece Hall outplayed Oklahoma State’s Chuba Hubbard, averaging more than nine yards per carry as he finished the day with 185 rushing yards and a score. Brock Purdy didn’t fare nearly as well in comparison to Spencer Sanders, finishing just 19-of-34 for 162 yards with a touchdown and an interception. The Cyclones defense coughed up 462 yards to Oklahoma State, which proved too much to overcome in the end despite winning the turnover battle.

Clinging to Top 25 position, Iowa State will look to rebound in Week 9 when they take on Kansas in a Halloween matchup in Lawrence. The Cyclones still have a solid shot at reaching the Big 12 championship game for a rematch against Oklahoma State if they can win out the rest of their slate.
