2. One-two punch of Williams, Carter gave Tar Heels control

Not only does Carter and Williams sound like partners of a law firm, but they also play pretty good football as well. Head coach Mack Brown on the two-headed combination, “I think they’re probably the best combination of two backs in the country.”

Javonte Carter and Michael Carter combined 36 carries in this game.

Many factors go into either building or rebuilding a program. Brown has decided that this program will be built on the running game. The Tar Heels have an offensive line that is experienced and two outstanding running backs. Their running game takes a lot of pressure off of Sam Howell.

Howell had a great freshman season, but he is still a sophomore. There are times that Howell plays like a sophomore as well. North Carolina’s running game is so dominant that it allows Howell to develop and grow as a quarterback. The way this season is going for the Heels, expect to see more of the law firm of Williams and Carter chew up more turf in the running game.
