Oklahoma Football: 3 takeaways from dominant win over TCU

2. Oklahoma’s defense played it’s best game this season
Including their non-conference opener, this game was their most complete of the season. Even though TCU does not have the most dynamic offense, they held a solid unit with a much improved quarterback Max Duggan.
The Horned Frogs averaged just three yards per carry and the leading rusher had just 20 yards in Foster. While giving up 247 yards through the air from Duggan, it never lead to big touchdowns. Oklahoma would settle down and either force a punt or let the clock run if they did score.
Alex Grinch’s defense has been heavily criticized for giving up big leads. However, they made sure to put that to bed quickly on Saturday.
TCU’s best run came with the game well in hand, under four minutes and down 23 points. Oklahoma’s problem has been giving up the big play and giving up big leads late in the game. There was never a worry of that throughout the game, due to Oklahoma’s front-seven winning constantly.
This is a great sign for a Sooners team that cannot afford another loss if they want to stay in the Big 12 title race. With Spencer Rattler and Marvin Mims coming into their own, this is the best time for the defense to feel comfortable
