2. Spencer Sanders did just what he needed to

For weeks, Shane Illingworth was keeping Oklahoma State above water. The freshman quarterback was impressing and there was even talk that he might replace the injured Spencer Sanders even when he returned.

Well, Sanders returned on Saturday against Iowa State and showed why he’s the starter.

Not only did he need to have a big game to keep his job, but he needed to keep Oklahoma State undefeated to make sure they remained ahead in the Big 12 title race as well as the playoff push.

Sanders had a solid game, passing for 235 yards and a touchdown on 20-of-29 completions but he did have two interceptions. He’ll need to clean up those turnovers. He also added 71 rushing yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.

Oklahoma State has its QB1, but it doesn’t hurt to have a capable backup in Illingworth.
