3. Terrel Bernard is the best linebacker in the Big 12

Regardless of the outcome, Terrel Bernard was the best player for either defense. The junior captain, recorded 18 tackles, including a pass breakup and 1.5 tackles for loss. For a defense that had its struggles at time, it was never on Bernard for the missing assignment or plays.

The junior took over for All-Big 12 linebacker Clay Johnston last year. Bernard would end up leading the team in tackles last year as he is translating those numbers this year. Under Dave Aranda and Ron Roberts, him and defensive end William Bradley-King are the clear stars of the defense and do a number of things.

Bernard’s run pursuit and excellent finishing on tackles is what makes him so special. In a conference with good linebacker play, headlined by TCU’s Garrett Wallow, it’s Bernard that should be getting more recognition after this game.

With more games like today, it will be no surprise if he ends up with postseason accolades.

For Baylor, they will head back to Waco for another rivalry game with TCU. The Longhorns will have their biggest test yet as they travel to Stillwater to play No. 6 Oklahoma State.
