1. South Carolina continues decline with 52-24 loss at LSU

It has been a disappointing season for the South Carolina Gamecocks and even more so than the defending national champion LSU Tigers.

The loss of the two major assistants and quarterback Joe Burrow has been too much for the Tigers. The losses to the Mississippi State and Missouri left them in a vulnerable situation of which the Gamecocks could not take advantage of.

LSU was able to find some form of offensive efficiency much like last season under new starting quarterback T.J. Finley. Under him, the Tigers were able to drive the ball down the field consistently against the Gamecocks. He passed for 265 yards, two touchdowns and had a QBR of 93.9 on 17-of-21 completions. The Gamecocks’ defense was gassed overall as the Tigers rushed the ball 54 times for 276 yards and three touchdowns.

South Carolina’s offense was inefficient in every position group, starting with their offensive line which gave up five sacks and seven tackles for loss. Quarterback Collin Hill passed for 234 yards, one touchdown, one interception and had a QBR of just 13 on 12-of-22 completions.

Defensively, the Gamecocks were only able to account for two tackles for loss as they were unable to get any pressure on LSU.

This loss puts a serious spotlight on head coach Will Muschamp and his coaching staff as they have not elevated the program more towards the SEC East crown. If the Gamecocks continue down this road, they’ll need to make some serious changes.
