College Football 2020: 5 Group of Five teams on upset alert in Week 9

5. Coastal Carolina (vs. Georgia State)

Did anyone expect Coastal Carolina to start the season 5-0, and ranked number 20 in the AP Poll? Didn’t think so, but here the Chanticleers stand midway through the season. This week they’ll head to Atlanta to take on Georgia State.

The biggest question of the game is going to be the health status of Coastal Carolina’s freshman phenom, Grayson McCall. McCall missed last week’s win over Georgia Southern with an upper body injury. in his place, the experienced Fred Payton was good enough to win for Coastal Carolina. So, will McCall play this week?

No one has an answer yet, but without McCall Coastal Carolina will be in trouble. Payton, while serviceable is not built to win shootout, and Georgia State is more than capable of turning this game into a shootout.

With the uncertainty around McCall’s health, having to play on the road, and playing a team in Georgia State who could score with them and Coastal Carolina is firmly on upset alert.
