Cincinnati Football: 3 takeaways from dominant win over Memphis
By Dante Pryor
Quick takeaways for Memphis
The Tigers were exposed in this game. The offensive line needs lots of work, and Memphis misses wide receiver both Damonte Coxie and running back Kenneth Gainwell on the offense. Quarterback Brady White had little time to get in a rhythm at all in this game. White seemed to get hit nearly every time he went to throw the football.
Defensively, Memphis came into this game with one of the worst secondaries in college football. Today, the Tigers’ secondary gave up 271 passing yards and five plays of over 20 yards. Memphis could not stop Cincy’s running game either surrendering 242 yards on the ground. Coach Ryan Sliverfield and his staff have a lot to fix before their game against South Florida.
Quick takeaways for Cincinnati
The Bearcats have to be pleased with how they have played the last two weeks. Cincy has been able to dominate two of the better offenses in the AAC thoroughly. In those two games, the Bearcats have given up only 23 points. The pass rush has dominated the trenches, and the secondary has suffocated the opposing receivers.
The offense has been more than just ground and pound. Desmond Ridder has settled in as a legitimate dual-threat quarterback for the Bearcats. With Ridder next to Gerrid Doaks, the zone read for the Bearcats is dangerous. Ridder did a great job in the passing game finding nine different receivers on his 21 completions.
It does not get any easier as Cincy hosts Houston next week.
