College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 10
By Zach Bigalke
SMU went into the tough environs of Annapolis and took a 31-17 lead into the locker room at halftime against Navy. After falling to Cincinnati in Week 8 for their first loss of the season, the Mustangs look likely to climb back up into the top 20 of the AP Top 25 after improving to 6-1. The Mustangs also knocked off another contender in the AAC race and kept themselves only one game back in the hunt for a top-two position.
Shane Buechele was crisp at quarterback, going 16-of-20 for 159 yards and a touchdown through the first two quarters. Ulysses Bentley IV racked up 105 yards on the ground in the first half and had two touchdowns of his own. Despite losing so much talent to injury on offense, SMU just keeps humming along. The defense held Navy under 100 rushing yards in the first 30 minutes.
Despite sitting a game back in the American Athletic Conference standings, SMU remains right in the thick of the contest. Road dates against Temple and Tulsa at the start of November will continue to test the Mustangs, but if they win those two games they will be in prime position for a rematch against Cincinnati for the league crown and a potential New Year’s Six berth.
