Indiana Football: 3 takeaways from comfortable win over Rutgers
By Dante Pryor
1. Quick takeaways for Rutgers
The Scarlet Knights coms away from this game, knowing what they need to work on. It is difficult to see immediate improvement along the offensive line, but that is one place they need help. However, redshirt senior Noah Vedral is a solid addition at quarterback who can hold down the fort as they attempt to find the quarterback of the future.
The defensive line was solid, especially against the run. The Scarlet Knights cannot turn the ball over and expect to win. Rutgers is not good enough to turn it over and overcome, giving the ball to the other team over the course of a game.
Quick takeaways for Indiana
The Hoosiers are tied for first place in the Big Ten East with Ohio State. That might not last long, but it is a neat thing to say about a football program trying to establish itself in one of the most difficult college football divisions. Head coach Tom Allen has to be excited about Michael Penix and the skilled offensive players.
Allen also has to be excited about the defense. Indiana is solid in its front seven, and the secondary is pretty good as well. Given the way the rest of the East has performed outside of Ohio State, Indiana might fight for second in the division this season.
