2. Penn State was outclassed in all phases of the game

The score does not look like a major blowout, but make no mistake Penn State was not in this ballgame. They are now 0-2 with seven games remaining and need a fast turnaround.

The offensive line has allowed five sacks in two games, and Sean Clifford was under constant pressure all night tonight.

Their best playmaker is proving to be Jahan Dotson who made an incredible touchdown catch in the third quarter. Through two games, Dotson has 12 catches, 238 yards and four touchdowns. Getting another playmaker next to him whether it’s a running back, receiver or tight end is very important for the Nittany Lions’ stretch run.

The defense has now allowed 74 points in two weeks and is sorely missing Micah Persons. They have been burned in early situations and late situations through the first two games. We do have to remember that this is still early for Big Ten teams, so defenses across the conference will be working through issues.

Credit to the Nittany Lions for battling, and putting up 19 points in the second half. But they did not play up to the level of a team like Ohio State. They need next week to be the “get right” game against a Maryland team that is a bit unpredictable.
