1. Clemson (7-0, 6-0)

Star Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence missed this week’s game against Boston College after testing positive for COVID-19. Lawrence will miss next week’s game against Notre Dame as well. Where Clemson needs to place its focus has nothing to do with the quarterback position. For the last two weekends, the Tigers have made many mental mistakes.

Against Syracuse there was the blocked punt and sluggish offensive start. The offensive line had issues finishing blocks in the running game. The defense struggles to slow down Boston College’s passing game. They did adjust to win the game, but the slow start two games in a row has to be a bit concerning.

It could very well be Clemson did not want to let loose until their game against the Irish. Freshman quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei proved against Boston College not only is the team good for the rest of the season, but “D.J. U” is good enough to play for and win a national title. Uiagalelei threw for 342 yards and two touchdowns against Boston College.

This week, all eyes are on South Bend as the Tigers clash with the Irish this weekend. It is not a foregone conclusion the Irish are the favorites because Trevor Lawrence is not playing. This strength on strength matchup could be a game of the year candidate.
