3. Michigan’s struggles continue

Where do we begin for this Michigan team, which now finds itself 1-2 and most likely unranked after this weekend.

The penalties were brutal all day long especially with regards to the defensive line. Five offsides penalties in the first half and two of those led to free plays that Indiana turned into touchdowns.

The Wolverines’ secondary has been getting shredded over the past two weeks. They have allowed 300-plus passing yards and three-plus passing touchdowns in each of their past two games. Daxton Hill and Brad Hawkins are a talented safety duo, but this cornerback room is sorely missing Ambry Thomas and Lavert Hill.

Joe Milton struggled mightily in this game and there were some bad drops by the Michigan receivers that contributed to their lack of production. The offense put themselves in a bad spot going 0-for-6 on third downs in the first half and only having one drive that lasted longer than five plays in the first half.

The second half was a different story, as Michigan did battle back and had a chance to pull within three points with 13 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Joe Milton picked the worst time for his first interception of the year, as this misread was the final nail in the coffin for Michigan.

Credit to Michigan for not rolling over and battling back. But they came out the gates ice cold and were never able to sustain enough momentum for a comeback.
