8. North Carolina State Wolfpack (4-3, 4-3)

The North Carolina State Wolfpack came up short last Friday against the Miami Hurricanes 44-41 in Raleigh. Give credit where credit is due here. The Wolfpack appeared to be in lots of trouble when Devin Leary got hurt. However, Bailey Hockman played well, throwing for 248 yards and two touchdowns. Ricky Pearson Jr. came back and ran for 79 yards.

Though there are no moral victories, head coach Dave Doeren has to be pleased with going toe to toe against a Miami team — although flawed — playing well. It was a back and forth game; the ‘Pack could not come up with the fourth quarter plays. NC State gets a struggling Florida State squad next week.

7. Virginia Tech Hokies (4-3, 4-2)

This was a sneaky good game in the ACC. The Hokies ran into a Liberty Flames team that would not be denied. The Hokies attempted to pull away in this game several times, but Liberty would not go quietly into that good night. Hendon Hooker played well both throwing and running, taking the slack for an injured Khalil Herbert.

The duel between Hooker and Liberty quarterback Malik Willis was fantastic to watch. Both quarterbacks put on a show. For the Hokies, unfortunately, they were the ones on the short end of the stick. It gets no easier for Virginia Tech as they get the Hurricanes next week.
