College Football 2020: 5 teams that’ll be on upset alert in Week 11
1. Arizona State (vs. Cal)
UPDATE: This game has since been cancelled due to a COVID-19 outbreak
If this game is even played, Pac-12 After Dark, anyone?
This game is still up in the air due to COVID-19 issues within the California program.
Anybody who’s read any of my thoughts on Cal knows how high I am on the Bears, so much so that I even picked them to win the Pac-12. If that’s going to happen, defeating Arizona State is a must.
What a great quarterback battle we’re getting here between two of the best quarterbacks that nobody seems to be talking about. Chase Garbers makes Cal so much of a better team, and Jayden Daniels is a budding superstar that in a normal full season would be building a Heisman resumé.
Despite the excellent matchup there, this looks like a solid defensive battle. Which defense makes the least (and least damaging) mistakes? Who can win the battle up front?
And how will Arizona State come out after an epic implosion against USC last week? Does it cause the Sun Devils to fold or get even tougher? They should have won last week, but instead came away with a crushing defeat.
Garbers, like he was so many times last year, is the difference maker in this game. He should be able to make enough throws and keep the Sun Devils defense in check before taking a couple deep shots that catch Arizona State off guard. If one of two of those deep shots pays off, Cal is in an excellent position to win the game.
