2. SMU keeps Zach Smith under 200 yards

By no means has Zach Smith ever set the world on fire for Tulsa, but the Baylor transfer has been worlds better than what they’ve put together in recent years under Philip Montgomery. That competence has helped Tulsa more methodically move the ball on offense, but running is still the Golden Hurricanes’ bread and butter.

Look for that running game to be the key that Tulsa relies on to beat SMU.

By running through the Mustangs, rather than throw over them, they won’t have to compete athletically on the outside. Rather, they’ll take their time, be methodical, and wear down the SMU defense in hopes of breaking one open.

This also will come with the benefit of keeping the high flying SMU offense off the field. The side effect, Smith won’t have a big day.
