College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 12
By Zach Bigalke
Miami struggled to get its offense going on the road against Virginia Tech, but pulled off a 25-24 comeback at Lane Stadium to cling to a spot in the top 10 of the AP Top 25 for another week. Manny Diaz’s team came back from an 11-point deficit to improve to 7-1 and, in the process, also kept their slim-but-not-dead hopes alive of locking down a spot in the ACC championship game.
D’Eriq King went 24-of-38 on the day, throwing for 255 yards and one touchdown. King added a rushing score, but finished with a net of only 15 rushing yards. Cam’Ron Harris led the Hurricanes with 63 rushing yards and a score. Miami’s defense got to bring out the turnover chain once again, though they gave up 362 yards and looked especially susceptible on the ground against the Hokies.
Miami still has everything to play for this year. Week 12 features a chance to look more dominant at home against Georgia Tech. The Hurricanes also still have Wake Forest and North Carolina on the schedule, offering a chance for two more quality wins. Miami still needs help in the ACC race, but if Clemson loses again or Notre Dame drops a game they could be right back in the conversation.
