1. Quick takeaways for Michigan State

Despite the loss, Mel Tucker has to like how the defense battled even when it was apparent they were gassed from being on the field so often. Those young men never hung their heads and played hard all four quarters. The Spartans did a good job against the run for three and a half quarters, limiting the Hoosiers to just 2.9 yards per carry.

The offense needs work.

Offensive coordinator Jay Johnson needs to figure out if the quarterback of the future is on this roster or not. It is fair to conclude Rocky Lombardi is not that player. Expect to see both Peyton Thorne and Theo Day to see action going forward.

Quick takeaways for Indiana

The Hoosiers are playing like a team that believes they are among the best in the Big Ten. Their record would say they are correct. Michael Penix has shown he is not only the best option at quarterback, but he is also the type of quarterback players want to rally around. Defensively, the Hoosiers are difficult to sustain drives against.

Indiana creates turnovers and puts pressure on the quarterback. Today’s win is the second game the Hoosiers have created four or more turnovers. That is the type of play that keeps you in games.
