7. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (4-3, 3-3)

When you see games like the ones Wake Forest had against North Carolina last week, you wonder if head coach Dave Clawson likes to recruit players with track backgrounds. Their 59-53 loss to the Tar Heels featured 112 points and 1,348 total yards. Most astounding of any statistic, there was no overtime; this was all in regulation.

Quarterbacks Sam Hartman and Sam Howell combined to throw for 979 yards and 10 touchdowns. There was only one interception in 90 combined pass attempts.

Ironically, Wake Forest was playing well defensively this season. This was only the third game the Deacons gave up over 30 points, all three losses. This season, Wake Forest is 10 points better offensively. The Deacons play Duke this weekend at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham.

6. Boston College Eagles (5-4, 4-4)

There are many things we are full of here at headquarters. We’re full of mint juleps, catchphrases and photographs of Steve Spurrier’s offensive playbook. There is also a lot of cynicism here between Tobacco Road and David Cutcliffe’s statue’s future site.

It’s easy to watch Boston College play this season and say, “Jeff Hafley ain’t going to be here long.” It’s a terrible thing to say when all Boston College fans have had to look forward to is six or seven wins and the Meineke Car Care Bowl.

Boston College lost to Notre Dame last week, but they gave the Irish all they could handle. Every week Boston College plays, the Eagles look prepared and expect to win. The only game the Eagles did not play well was against Virginia Tech. They will have Hafley for more than one season; it’s hard to know how many more beyond that if Michigan comes open at the end of this season.

Sorry, Eagles fans.
