College Football 2020: 5 Group of 5 teams that’ll be on upset alert in Week 12
4. Boise State (at Hawaii)
Admittedly, Hawaii is still getting their feet under them with new head coach Todd Graham. They’ve looked good in bursts, but have been decidedly inconsistent in their new offense. Hawaii also played and lost to Boise State twice last season, fairly convincingly both times.
So, what shot do the Warriors have of upsetting the Broncos? A better than bad one.
Boise State has been good this season, but has had some difficulties. BYU, while having an excellent season, torched the Boise State defense. There are serious holes, especially in coverage if Chevan Cordeiro can be a bit more accurate for Hawaii as he grows in a new offensive system.
The Broncos are also dealing with some not-insignificant COVID-19 issues. Starting quarterback Hank Bachmeier has had to miss two games due to a positive test. He’s not alone, as a string of cases at Boise State are threatening the game itself.
Maybe non of that amounts to anything, and Boise State wins handily like last year. It just seems like the Broncos are vulnerable in 2020. It also doesn’t hurt this game is being played at Hawaii, which is the only place the Warriors have ever managed to beat the Broncos.
