Louisville Football: 3 takeaways from shutout win over Syracuse
1. Louisville isn’t giving up on the 2020 season yet
This season has not been an easy season for Louisville. The impact of COVID-19 has limited the preparation of all teams during the spring and summer this year. It has created problems with teams installing new schemes on either side of the ball.
For a team like Louisville, it could have used the full offseason to efficiently prepare under second-year head coach Scott Satterfield. As a result, teams like Penn State, Michigan and Louisville have found themselves in the midst of disappointing seasons in which they were supposed to win at least eight games and contend for their respective conference titles.
This is the worst start for the Cardinals since the last season of head coach Bobby Petrino in 2018 when he began 2-8. The Cardinals finished that season with a 2-10 record. Last season, Satterfield led the Cardinals to an 8-5 record including a victory in the Music City Bowl.
This season has been a disappointment for the Cardinals (3-6) considering a large amount of talent and starters returning. Their schedule has been brutal as they had to play against three ranked opponents in a span of four weeks. A win over the Orange has shown the rest of the teams left on their schedule and to the ACC that they are not willing to give up.
This might be enough motivation for the Cardinals to rebound for next year’s 2021 season and make up for lost time.
