2. Iowa State Cyclones (No. 13)

Iowa State’s ranking isn’t based off of the entire scale of where the issue comes to hand. It’s more about the issue with the team they beat that’s ahead of them. Near the beginning of the season, Oklahoma went on the road and lost to Iowa State. With the same record later in the season, where is the justification for Oklahoma being ahead of the Cyclones.

They are playing their best football of the season, coming off a 45-0 shellacking over Kansas State which was in third place in the conference standings prior to kickoff. Being without starting quarterback Skylar Thompson worked out for the Cyclones as they whipped K-State up and down the field.

Breece Hall is emerging as one of the best running backs in the country, Brock Purdy threw for three touchdowns and the Cyclone defense forced four turnovers.

There is a debate for the Cyclones being a two-loss team with an ugly loss against Louisiana and losing a heartbreaker in Stillwater to Oklahoma State. However, they’re playing their best football at the right time and with a win over Texas, could very well leapfrog the Sooners.

Still, with the case in hand, the committee slotted Iowa State a little too low and should be ahead of Oklahoma.
