3. Texas (vs. Iowa State)

This may not really seem like an upset alert, but hear me out on this one.

For some reason, the Texas Longhorns are a one point favourite by a number of oddsmakers and are being given a whopping 71.9 percent chance of victory as per ESPN’s Football Power Index. After an unimpressive 1-2 start to the season, including defeat to Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry, the Longhorns have rallied. Texas has won their last three including an overtime win over then-sixth-ranked Oklahoma State.

After taking a brief sojourn outside of the AP Top 25 early in the season, Texas were ranked ranked No. 17 in the first College Football Playoff rankings ahead of this crucial Big 12 matchup.

Despite being ranked higher and being in position to stamp their ticket to the Big 12 title game, the Iowa State Cyclones are almost an underdog in this game and as such Texas should very much consider themselves on upset alert.

The Cyclones season has not been without some bumps in the road. Their season began even worse than Texas’ with defeat to the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns on opening day but they have claimed the scalp of Oklahoma in winning six of their eight games this season.

Although Texas is averaging more points per game than Iowa State, and Brock Purdy would surely lose in a toe-to-toe shootout against Sam Ehlinger, there is a very clear path to victory for the Cyclones today.

Dominate the time of possession, keep Ehlinger off the field and they can get the win that will send them to the Big 12 title game. With running back Breece Hall they have the ultimate weapon to execute that plan.
