2. The Hoosier defense carried the day against the Terps

Last season, the Hoosiers showed flashes of an outstanding defense. Indiana was strong against the pass last year allowing 213.7 yards per game. This season is more of the same. This defense does have a “bend don’t break” mentality, but the Hoosiers created turnovers and give their offense a short field.

The Hoosiers’ three interceptions today give them 16 on the season, best in FBS.

It was the defense that held the Terrapins at bay until the offense finally got going. Indiana held Maryland to just two scoring drives all game. The Terps punted on five drives; four of those were three and outs. Indiana’s 4-2-5 defense gave Tagovailoa fits all game long. The Alabama transfer could not figure out the Hoosier’s coverages.

It did not help the Terrapins did not have any support running the football with just 59 rushing yards on the day. Indiana turned the Terrapins into a one-dimensional team and Maryland could not move the football.
