2. Defense showed flashes of dominance again

The Oklahoma State Cowboys had boasted the best defense in the Big 12 for most of the season. However, in their last two games, the Cowboys gave up 492 yards and 41 points in their loss to Oklahoma and 639 yards and 44 points in today’s victory.

Several aspects of what made Oklahoma State solid defensively have all of a sudden disappeared in the last two weeks. Safeties are letting wide receivers get deep or late with help in two-deep coverage. The pass rush has been largely ineffective with only one sack today.

What the Cowboys did today was take advantage of mistakes by the Red Raiders. Oklahoma State had a pick-six by Tre Sterling in the third quarter. The Cowboys took a two-touchdown lead against the Red Raiders when they scored after the Red Raiders lost the ball to downs.

Despite Oklahoma State not playing well defensively, they made plays at the right time.
