8-1. Clemson Tigers. 3. Scouting Report. player. 879. Pick Analysis. won 52-17 vs. Pittsburgh

After the selection committee placed them ahead of the Buckeyes in their inaugural rankings on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, Clemson did nothing to imagine they will fall behind an idle Ohio State team in the College Football Playoff standings this week. The Tigers went out and crushed Pittsburgh at home on Saturday, knocking off the Panthers 52-17 to improve to 8-1 and put themselves one step closer to defending their ACC title for the sixth straight season.

Trevor Lawrence had a huge game at quarterback, throwing for 403 yards and two touchdowns on 26-of-37 passing. Travis Etienne led the committee effort in the backfield with 58 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Lyn-J Dixon and Chez Mellusi also punched in rushing scores. Clemson dominated defensively, holding Pitt to only 26 rushing yards and intercepting Kenny Pickett four times.

With their game at Florida State still not rescheduled, the only remaining game on Clemson’s schedule at this point is their Week 14 showdown at Virginia Tech. How the ACC league office deals with that situation remains to be seen, but even without a full slate of games the Tigers remain on course to qualify for the sixth year in a row into the College Football Playoff.
