Projected 2020 College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings for Week 14
By Zach Bigalke
Without Nick Saban on the sidelines due to a positive COVID-19 test, Alabama came out for the Iron Bowl and obliterated rival Auburn 42-13. The win over the No. 22 Tigers kept the Crimson Tide undefeated through eight games and ensured that they will remain in the top spot of the College Football Playoff selection committee’s Top 25 when they release the next batch of rankings on Tuesday evening.
Mac Jones threw for 302 yards and five touchdowns on 18-of-26 passing, carving up the Auburn secondary at will. Najee Harris finished the game with 96 rushing yards and a touchdown on just 11 carries, while adding two receptions for 34 yards to go over triple digits from scrimmage. Devonta Smith hauled in seven catches for 171 yards and two scores, while John Metchie III also hauled in two touchdown passes. The Alabama defense picked off Bo Nix twice and held their rivals to 347 total yards.
Two games remain on Alabama’s schedule in the regular season after the league office reshuffled teams’ slates to get in as many games as possible. The Crimson Tide play LSU in Baton Rouge in Week 14 before closing out the regular season at Arkansas on December 12. Unless they suffer a massive upset as a heavy favorite in one of those games, Alabama will remain perched at No. 1 in the rankings heading into the SEC championship game.
