Projected 2020 College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings for Week 14
By Zach Bigalke
Oklahoma State clawed out a 50-44 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday that felt like vintage Big 12 football. The two teams combined for 1178 total yards of offense and 94 points as the Cowboys fended off a late Red Raiders comeback bid. The victory kept Mike Gundy’s team in the Big 12 race this season and allowed them to hold on to a spot in the College Football Playoff selection committee’s rankings for another week.
With Chuba Hubbard sidelined by a leg injury, running back Dezmon Jackson stepped up in a big way. The junior racked up 235 yards and three rushing touchdowns on three dozen carries. Quarterback Spencer Sanders added 222 passing yards and 78 rushing yards with one score through the air and another on the ground. Oklahoma State’s defense fell flat, though, giving up 639 yards and losing the turnover battle.
The Cowboys are on the road for the rest of the regular season, with trips to Fort Worth to face TCU and Waco for a battle at Baylor on the schedule over the first two weekend of December. Given their head-to-head loss to Oklahoma and their head-to-head win over Iowa State, the Cowboys need one of the two teams to lose again to reach the Big 12 title game. If they don’t get any help, the New Year’s Six is probably out of reach.
