College football 2020: Ranking the 3 worst losses from Week 13
2. UMass shut out at home by Liberty
Several teams are having disastrous seasons and it seems to be getting worse. The UMass Minutemen are one of those teams as they have suffered their fourth loss of the season. Not only did they lose, but they were also dominated by the one-loss Liberty Flames, 45-0.
The Minutemen allowed 31 points in the first half followed by the remaining 14 points by the Flames in the third quarter. UMass’ offense only accounted for 227 yards as well as 12 first downs. The rushing offense was highly inefficient as they were only able to account for 55 yards on 31 attempts for an average of 1.8 yards per carry.
The UMass defense played an inconsistent game as they allowed 629 total yards and 31 first downs. The Flames’ offense accounted for 378 yards on the ground on 44 carries for an average of 8.6 yards per rush. Liberty had two players reach 100 rushing yards in Peytton Pickett (125 yards) and Joshua Mack (109 yards) and a rushing touchdown.
Quarterback Malik Willis had a very impressive performance as he passed for 223 yards and three touchdowns on 16-of-24 completions. He also rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown on seven carries.
Minutemen head coach Walt Bell has now lost 15 of his 16 games. This is a program that needs patience, but it also needs some signs of progress going forward.
