2. West Virginia at Iowa State

Let’s be clear, Iowa State is overrated. They have a few nice wins, over Oklahoma and Texas, but they also have a couple tough losses, including to a Sun Belt team. West Virginia, meanwhile, is underrated. Now in their second season under Neal Brown the Mountaineers come in at 5-3 and with a couple better breaks they could easily be 7-1.

Iowa State is of course led by Brock Purdy and everyone’s hot coaching candidate, Matt Campbell. Together they’ve managed to take over the Big 12, and have a legitimate shot at winning the Big 12 for the first time ever. West Virginia just aren’t pushovers.

On defense, they’re only allowing 274 yards per game, which is dominant in the age of high flying spread offenses. The Mountaineers are solid on offense too, with quarterback Jarret Doege putting up better numbers than Purdy on the season.

The Cyclones should win this game, and they will if they run the ball effectively with Breece Hall and don’t take this game preceding the Big 12 Championship for granted. If they do overlook West Virginia, then the Mountaineers are exactly the type of team who can make you pay.
