The dual-QB system succeeds

There has been a clear difference between the two Nebraska football quarterbacks this season with Martinez being the better passer and Luke McCaffrey being the better runner.

Last week, Martinez only had two incompletions and threw for 174 yards, while McCaffrey also ran the ball five times for 42 yards. Obviously, playing two quarterbacks isn’t ideal but it has sort of worked for Nebraska and even though Martinez probably deserves the bigger role, you probably don’t want to remove the running skills of McCaffrey either.

Whoever is playing quarterback, Nebraska needs to do a better job in the red zone. The Huskers also need to do a better job on third downs, they are currently last in the Big Ten and playing a Purdue defense that allows a 44-percent conversion rate won’t hurt.

It might be a little different, but both guys can act as a dual threat and each will play a role in the game Saturday. Martinez will end up playing most but I think both will wind up being responsible for a touchdown and for the second week in a row, each will be part of the plan.
