Ohio State Football: 3 takeaways from win over Michigan State
Ohio State looks playoff worthy
There has been a lot talk about whether Ohio State will complete six games and be eligible for the Big Ten Championship game. With Michigan cancelling their game that was supposed to be played today, there is some doubt over next week’s version of The Game.
Now if Ohio State does not qualify for the Big Ten Championship, but they finish the season 6-0, how would the committee rank them?
It is tough to truly gage what the committee would do in this unprecedented situation. In the past, it has allowed teams that have not won their conference (Ohio State in 2016, Alabama in 2017).
Let’s just take a look at the facts: the committee have allowed non-conference champs in before, Ohio State has a ranked win over Indiana, and dominated the rest of their schedule (won the remaining games by a combined score of 191-81).
Taking all of that into consideration, Ohio State has done enough to qualify as a playoff team.
The Buckeyes have shown they are balanced on both sides of the ball and can be a legitimate threat in the postseason. Missing out on a conference championship due to circumstances outside of their control, should not lead to them being dismissed.
Ohio State is one of the four best teams in the nation, the question is will they be the Big Ten’s champion?
