Projected 2020 College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings for Week 15
By Zach Bigalke
North Carolina made short work of FCS Western Carolina in Week 14, blowing out the Catamounts 49-9 on Saturday afternoon to improve to 7-3. Last week the Tar Heels were the only three-loss team ranked by the College Football Playoff selection committee, and they will remain in the Top 25 rankings this week despite the dip in opponent quality.
Sam Howell had an impressive game through the air, throwing for 287 yards and two touchdowns on 20-of-23 passing. Michael Carter ran for 73 yards and three rushing scores, while D.J. Jones and Javonte Williams also punched in touchdowns on the ground. Against North Carolina’s defense, three Catamounts quarterbacks combined to go just 10-of-18 for 76 yards. Western Carolina managed just 253 total yards of offense.
At this point the ACC championship game is out of reach for one of the preseason hopefuls in the league race, but Mac Brown’s crew can still play its way back into New Year’s Six contention. The Tar Heels close out their regular season in Week 15 with a trip to Miami to face the Hurricanes. A win to close out 2020 would vault North Carolina further up the Top 25.
