Projected 2020 College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings for Week 15
By Zach Bigalke
Notre Dame secured an undefeated regular season in their home finale against Syracuse on Saturday. The 45-21 victory over the Orange puts Brian Kelly’s team in great position to qualify for the College Football Playoff, whether they win or lose against Clemson in the ACC championship game in two weeks. When the committee comes together to determine the top 25 teams in the country, the Fighting Irish will once again sit right behind Alabama at No. 2 in the country.
Ian Book did throw an interception, but was otherwise solid with three touchdowns and 285 yards on 24-of-37 passing. Book added 53 rushing yards and two scores on the ground. Kyren Williams and Chris Tyree both finished in triple digits out of the backfield, with Williams rushing for 110 yards and Tyree racking up 109 yards. Notre Dame’s defense allowed Sean Tucker to run for 113 yards and Cooper Lutz to pile on 102 yards, but forced four Syracuse turnovers in the win.
The Fighting Irish are off in Week 15 after the ACC decided that neither they nor Clemson would be required to make up COVID-19 postponed games against Wake Forest and Florida State respectively. Now 10-0, all Notre Dame has to do is prepare for the ACC championship game on December 19. The winner is effectively guaranteed a spot in the College Football Playoff, while Notre Dame could still get in even with a close loss to the Tigers.
