Projected 2020 College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings for Week 15
By Zach Bigalke
Louisiana took care of business on Friday night, taking down Appalachian State in a rematch of last year’s Sun Belt championship game. The Ragin’ Cajuns prevailed 24-21 in Boone, holding off a late Mountaineers comeback bid to improve to 9-1. Already locked in as the top team in the Sun Belt West, Louisiana consolidated its position in the College Football Playoff selection committee’s Top 25 rankings with the victory on the road.
It was hardly the most aesthetically pleasing of victories. Levi Lewis went just 8-of-23 for 101 passing yards and a touchdown. The Ragin’ Cajuns held Appalachian State to 290 yards and forced three turnovers but were still outgained and in danger of going to overtime. Billy Napier elected to take back-to-back intentional safeties in the fourth quarter, and only a missed field goal at the wire allowed Louisiana to prevail in regulation.
For Louisiana the regular season is now officially over. All that remains on the schedule is the Sun Belt championship game, which will be played this year at Coastal Carolina. If the Ragin’ Cajuns win that game and vanquish their only loss of the regular season, and if Iowa State manages to secure the Big 12 title, Napier’s squad has a strong case to make for a New Year’s Six spot.
