Devonta Smith stole the show

Najee Harris, Mac Jones, and Will Anderson all played great in this blowout of LSU. But, the real story of this game is the performance of DeVonta Smith and how he has stepped up in recent weeks.

Smith finished the first half with 7 catches, 219 yards, and 3 touchdowns. For those who watched the Chiefs/Bucs last Sunday, it was eerily similar to the Tyreek Hill performance.

This touchdown catch to close out the first half was nothing short of special, and will surely get NFL scouts buzzing. This is business as usual for the veteran Smith, who has seemingly demolished the state of Louisiana for too long.

In his past two games against the Tigers, DeVonta Smith has hauled in 15 receptions for 444 yards, and 5 touchdowns. The phrase “video game numbers” does not do justice for Smith, who has been a dominant receiver in his 4 years at Tuscaloosa.

When Jaylen Waddle went down early on in the season, the focus was put on Smith to lead this core of receivers. DeVonta has gone above and beyond in doing so, as the Alabama offense has not skipped one beat.

In the four games since Waddle was ruled out for the season, Smith has 35 catches for 749 yards, and 11 touchdowns. For approximately 90 percent of wide receivers that is a great season. For Smith it’s just getting from Halloween to Thanksgiving.
