No. 24 Tulsa Golden Hurricane (6-1)

When the AAC started, all of the usual suspects were favored to win the conference. SMU, Cincinnati and UCF were among the teams thought to have an opportunity to win the conference. Tulsa was predicted to finish ninth. As ESPN legend Chris Berman would say, “that’s why you play the game.”

With their win against the Naval Academy this weekend, Tulsa finds themselves in the AAC championship game. After their opening season loss to Oklahoma State, the Hurricane was forgotten. Tulsa, however, rattled off six straight wins after that loss. Along the way, Tulsa beat UCF for the third season in a row and SMU.

This season is a reversal of fortune for Tulsa. Last season the Golden Hurricane lost five games by two possessions or less. Tulsa is 4-1 this season in such games. Now Tulsa finds themselves with an opportunity to play for the AAC Championship. The Golden Hurricane should play loose. They are the underdogs in this one.

Also, they play in the season finale before the conference championship game, so Tulsa gets a look at what Cincinnati is before the title game. Win or lose; this has been a great year for Phil Montgomery and the Golden Hurricane.
