Projected 2020 College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings for Week 16
By Zach Bigalke
As COVID-19 cases increased throughout the Texas roster, the Longhorns had no choice but to call off their trip to Lawrence in Week 15 to face Kansas. With the cancellation of the game against the Jayhawks, Texas concluded its regular season with a 6-3 record and a 5-3 finish in Big 12 play. In a year where the Longhorns hoped to contend for the league title, even the impact of a pandemic might not save Tom Herman’s job now that results are in.
Sam Ehlinger finished with 25 touchdown passes and 2400 yards through the air as the Longhorns depended heavily on their veteran quarterback to generate offense. The 69-31 victory against Kansas State that proved to be Texas’ regular season finale offered a belated glimpse of what might have been if the Longhorns had a more productive ground game throughout their 2020 campaign.
Without a Big 12 championship to prepare for this year, the Longhorns now wait to see where they land in the bowl picture. Depending on what happens over championship weekend, it will be interesting to see if the committee ultimately slots Texas into one of the New Year’s Six bowls despite losses to both Oklahoma and Iowa State.
