Junior Colson

While Michigan football didn’t have a great day on the defensive side of the ball, signing just three four-star recruits, one of those guys is Junior Colson and that’s a name you’ll want to remember.

The prospect out of SEC country in Tennessee, is 6-foot-2, 225 pounds and frankly, he has freakish athleticism. In 2019, he registered over 100 tackles and 14 sacks. This season, he was equally impressive.

I don’t know what his exact sack total was, but on top of that, he flashed his athleticism by taking a kickoff 90 some yards for a touchdown this season. Here’s what Harbaugh said about him last night via 247 sports.

"“He’s one of those linebackers that can cover, he can come downhill in the game. He’s rushing the quarterback extremely well. High energy. Pursuing the football, he’s never out of a player. One of the real things about a linebacker that I love, they’re always showing up in the picture. If you look at the film you always see Junior coming running.”"

Outside of being a blitzer/pass rusher, Colson is very good in coverage and he’s a true three-down linebacker that won’t have to leave the field. And even though he probably won’t play the viper spot, because Don Brown looks to be on the way out, he’s the ideal outside linebacker and with the lack of explosive players on that side of the ball, he should get on the field early.

And a few years down the road, it wouldn’t shock me at all if he ended up as an early-round draft pick.
