If you look at Michigan’s class, it’s easy to look at Edwards, Worthy and McCarthy as key early contributors, along with Colson and offensive tackle Giovanni El-Hadi, the the other top-100 signee that fans are sort of forgetting about.

El-Hadi and Worthy are both guys I expect to contribute next season, especially Worthy, but, I don’t see his impact matching that of McCarthy who I believe will be the starting quarterback next season for the Wolverines.

At this point, Joe Milton is probably leaving via a transfer and even though Cade McNamara showed some promise in that second half against Rutgers, I just don’t think he’s on the same level talent wise as McCarthy. Here’s what Harbaugh said about his new QB:

"“Just has it. Just has it where people want to follow. He’s not one of those big man on campus kind of guys where it’s all about him Always talking about his teammates, just really all good. Competitive. There’s a word that sums up what you’re looking for in a quarterback the most. JJ’s got that.”"

People always talk about the “it” factor but McCarthy really does seem to have it. He helped organize a group self-guided visit of 2021 commitments and without that leadership, this class wouldn’t have stayed together as well as it did.

Kids still want to play at Michigan and for Harbaugh, even with the struggles, that much is clear. But many of these recruits wanted to play for McCarthy too and soon enough, we’ll see why,
