Army Football: 3 takeaways from thrilling victory over Air Force in finale
By Dante Pryor
2. Army won two close games to reclaim Commander-In-Chief Trophy
The Army has leaned on its defense for two consecutive weeks to bring the vaunted trophy back to the banks of the Hudson. Last week against Navy with new starting quarterback Tyheir Tyler, the Black Knights were leading 3-0 just as they were this week against the Falcons. Several big plays on defense — a goal-line stand, a safety and fumble recovery — put the game away for the Knights.
This week was much of the same for the Army. It took three interceptions — two in the fourth quarter — to propel the Knights to victory. The defense has been the star of the show for the Knights the last two weeks giving up seven points in two games and 378 yards in two games.
With so many injuries this season, the Black Knights have had difficulties with continuity on offense. That has shown itself these last two weeks. These are rivalry games, so records and stats can be thrown out of the window. The odds are you get the best games from your opponent.
Army got the best of the Falcons and Midshipmen the last two weeks but found a way to win.
