Nebraska Football: 3 takeaways from Huskers win over Rutgers
Young linebackers from Nebraska shine
As good as the offense was Friday night, the Nebraska football defense deserves plenty of credit for the win too. It pressured Rutgers quarterback Artur Sitkowski throughout the game and even though the Huskers got just two sacks, they hit him regularly.
It was also impressive to see a couple of homegrown Huskers played well. Garrett Nelson of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, came up with a big play on a fourth down Friday night and he’s shown a knack for making plays in recent weeks.
Another in-state linebacker, Nick Henrich had a solid game for the Huskers with 12 total tackles. And of course, the game was sealed when Cam Taylor-Britt came down with an interception on what could have been a game-tying drive for Rutgers.
It does seem as though the defense is improving. Ty Robinson is another young talent to watch and Nebraska added some solid recruits on that side of the ball on early signing day too.
So the defense has some bright spots and the offense does too. Obviously, this program needed a massive rebuild when Frost took over and even though it’s been painful, there’s hope that progress is right around the corner.
