Ohio State Football: 3 takeaways from 2020 Big Ten title win over Northwestern
1. Ohio State looking forward to College Football Playoff
Ohio State is currently ranked No. 4 by the College Football Playoff committee and now has a conference championship to strengthen their resume. So they are in right?
It would be fun to sit here and say their so-so performance today could open up the doors for a team to overlap the Buckeyes. But Texas A&M with one loss and no conference championship has not done enough to make the claim they are better than the Buckeyes.
The seeding will definitely be something to watch. If Notre Dame beats Clemson, Ohio State likely jumps a spot. But if Clemson beats Notre Dame, it will be interesting to see if the committee penalizes the Fighting Irish by dropping them behind Ohio State.
Ideally, Ohio State would want to avoid Clemson and Alabama in the first round, as both of those explosive passing attacks can give their depleted secondary a major problem. But then again who doesn’t want to see a rematch from last year’s Fiesta Bowl?
If the committee confirms what we all believe, this will be the Buckeyes’ second straight appearance in the playoff and fourth overall. The Buckeyes have not been at the top of the mountain since 2015, will this be the year the Buckeyes return to glory?
