Texas A&M Football: 3 reasons the Aggies deserve a playoff spot
By Dante Pryor
1. It is better to lose early than lose late
Recency bias is a thing. There will be lots of criticism about Ohio State’s victory today. The Buckeyes were not dominant on a day they needed to send a message. Texas A&M’s loss to Alabama seems like a season ago. Since that loss, the Aggies have played exponentially better.
It will be hard for Texas A&M to push out Ohio State, and Alabama is the No. 1 seed. Texas A&M’s best hope is for Notre Dame to win the ACC Championship against Clemson. Texas A&M might deserve to be in the playoff, but the teams currently in the top four deserve to be there as well.
There is the argument that Ohio State only played six games. However, the committee made it clear at the beginning of the process; the number of games played would not be a factor in the selection since outbreaks are often out of schools’ control. For example, the Michigan-Ohio State game was canceled because of Michigan, not Ohio State.
Every person in College Station should become Notre Dame fans. The committee has been staunch on eliminating two-loss teams as well. A Notre Dame win should eliminate a two-loss Clemson. However, this is the committee, and they do what they want.
